I have been in the midst of insanity and wanted to review these boxes earlier, but alas life happens!
So Julep recently released their May Mystery Box and after seeing the absolutely adorable bag in fun spring colors I had to have it. (I just kept thinking what an adorable project bag it would make for my knitting projects) Again I believe they are evil marketing geniuses over there because I keep ordering their stuff!
So if you want my opinion and first impressions of Julep, please read my Welcome Box review blog. I go into much more detail. The May Mystery Box was being sold for $29.99 with optional mystery add-ons for $4.99, $9.99, and $14.99. Now I want to show you the goodies I got! Keep in mind this box was entirely a surprise (well except for the Argan oil I ordered in the impulse buy window). Julep only gave the promise of a spring theme. I also purchased the Major Mystery Add-on with this so keep that in mind.
Here's what I received:
Now this was taken when I first recieved the box in the mail. I was super impressed!
So here is the breakdown... The bag, top row of colors and the mascara and lip gloss were all part of the original mystery box. My understanding is that the Duo for hands and the other two colors are the mystery upgrade that I selected. Also, if you care to look before purchasing the mystery box there is usually a code for a free nail polish, so that white-ish sparkly one is my freebie.
So if you just opted for the mystery box only this is what you would have recieved:
Still pretty amazing for $29.99, and Julep certainly lived up to the promise of spring colors.

Now for the critique of this review...
I loved all of the colors in this box, and the bag was amazing! (Although advertizing it as "vegan" leather is kinda silly. But I suppose it sounds better than plastic) I believe Marcella is going to be a new favorite of mine. The formulation is spot on and the purple pink goes great with my skin tone. This is however the third polish out of the box I tried.
Polish #1 was Leona. I HAD to put this one on first. I have been drooling over it since the April birthstone collection got launched. So when I could add any polish free to my box? Of course I picked this shimmery treat. And I love it! Although I'm making a note to wear a coat of color underneath for next time. This picture doesn't even begin to show the sparkle this polish has:
Now for the bad parts. There were a few. The #2 polish I tried out was Bea and its formula is horrid! It runs all over the place and doesn't dry. After 10 minutes of trying to let the first coat dry I wiped it off easily with a paper towel...
Also the lip gloss they sent came in the color Vivid. It seemed more of a Fall or Winter color to me. Not real spring-like. But that could just be me. I'm pasty white and rocking such a bold color (even in a gloss) isn't for spring!
The other item I had issues with was the Time Machine Hand Duo. Its a sunscreen (I think for your hands but the bottle doesn't say) and a hand mask. The hand mask comes with a cute little brush and it says to apply with that. But this is how mine showed up:
Yep. Gooey. Hanging in mid-air. No way I'm getting that to spread with a brush. On the plus side, I wrote to Julep customer service and they were super friendly. I sent them a few pics for their product development department and they are sending me the Glycolic Hand Scrub in place of this, um, goop... yeah goop.
*update* I got my Glycolic Hand Scrub in the mail (boy that was fast) Julep doesn't mess around with customer support! Thank you for handling that so quickly! I love my new product!
All in all I think I got a great deal with the May Mystery box. I can't wait to see what they come out with next!
Be kind to thyselves!
