Not just about stuff...

I've been posting a lot of boxes and box reviews.  While I love them, I do believe that trying new products and keeping yourself beautiful is only one way to be kind to yourself and I would like to explore other ways as well.

Today I'm going to touch upon one of the other things I do for myself that is not box related.  In fact it doesn't really involve buying "stuff" per-say.  It does involve a little investment of money and time but in the end.... it's the best investment you can ever make in yourself.

What am I talking about?  The gym of course.  Exercise is often overlooked in our busy lives, however, it is what keeps us healthy, whole, and moving fluidly day in day out.  Without exercise we all become lazy couch critters like in the movie Wall-e.

So for $20 a month I am a member of a local gym and have access to the best equipment, classes, and trainers.  This is an investment that will keep giving back in terms of quality of life, longevity, health, etc.

If you are unwilling to invest in a gym or the environment is not for you, that's ok!  Take the $20 that you would pay for that membership and invest it in some free weights, workout videos, exercise balls, pull-up bars, or whatever suits your fancy.  Tuck the money away until you can buy a treadmill or an elliptical.  Maybe even make installed payments on one of these machines.

Or take the $20 and use it as a goal.  Walk or run to a store near your house and treat yourself.  Before I could afford a gym I would do a walk/run circuit to my local party store in the morning, purchase my morning cuppa Joe, then have a leisurely walk back home. Just make sure you pick a store far enough from your house to make it worth your while (or take a really convoluted route there)

I would also ride my bicycle to the grocery store instead of taking my car.  Sure it means more trips per week because I can't carry as much, but more trips equals exercise!  Check out the bike basket I got. One of the best purchases I ever made!! It can hold quite a bit inside and if you get a mesh bungee then it can hold even more. Just protect your bananas or they will smash and brown on the ride home.

Remember there are plenty of ways to get your workout on and stay fit.  It doesn't have to be the torture everyone seems to make it to be.  Play with your dog, play a sport with your kids, join a sports team, take a class, learn self defense, ride your bike thru local parks, go kayaking, swim, wake-board, surf, ski, climb rocks, try something new and fun and find your passion.  I'm positive there is something out there for everyone!

Remember, be kind to thyself!
And if you need any advice about workout videos feel free to ask. I'm a bit of an addict!
